The books
RetroGeek Crafts started as a YouTube channel. In time, however, what started as a single video became a space for experimentation and learning. After a couple of years restoring toys, I published "Restoring My Little Pony", which focuses on MLP G1. But there is more! Very soon, the first RetroGeek Crafts guidebook is going to become available worldwide. Please scroll down to find out more.

About the new book
The Unofficial My Little Pony Companion is the culmination of three wonderful years spent restoring vintage ponies for my YouTube channel, RetroGeek Crafts. During this time, I learned about the expansive world of Hasbro's MLP Generation One and fell in love with each of my equine projects. However, when I began researching the rarer “Nirvana” ponies—those produced in countries outside of Hong Kong and China—I found that reliable, comprehensive sources were surprisingly difficult to come by.
That challenge inspired me to create this book: A comprehensive guide dedicated to every Generation One My Little Pony ever released. Inside, you’ll find detailed information, illustrations, and fun facts covering ponies from around the world, including those elusive international variants that have long fascinated collectors. All accompanied by custom-made standardized full-color images and detailed descriptions.
The book's goal is to provide one accessible, well-organized reference for fans, restorers, and collectors. A true celebration of the magic and nostalgia that these beloved ponies continue to inspire!

A peek at the book's content
The book consists of almost 400 pages filled with well-research information, exclusive illustrations, and consistent graphics to help collectors and My Little Pony enthusiasts identify and compare ponies. It is organized into three main sections:
-
History and Reference Guides (Inventory of Poses, Colors, Manufacture Details, and more)
-
International Releases (Focused on North America and European ponies)
-
Nirvana Ponies from ALL around the world, including previously undocumented variants.

Section 1: MLP History & Reference guides
The first thirty or so pages of The Unofficial My Little Pony Companion serve as a reference guide for understanding, classifying, and determining the rarity of MLP G1 ponies.
These pages include extensive well-researched sections on pony poses, hair color, materials, and new information on the company that created them, the process of manufacture both in Hong Kong/China and "Nirvana" countries, and even some insights into artists, long-forgotten concepts, and rare finds we're still not sure where to place!

Section 2: The Ponies by Year
The second section of the book focuses on the ponies released in the United States and Europe organized by Year. Each graphic follows the same template, which is particularly useful for finding "Nirvana" or international ponies of which the community has very few photographs. These pages are also peppered with fun facts about the ponies and their design and stories.

Section 3: The "Nirvana" Ponies
The third section is an attempt at delivering something that the MLP community has been requesting for years: A complete and thorough list of ALL ponies released around the world. This means 19 countries and hundreds of ponies, all individually recreated to reflect their original colors and shapes.
